Transport official trapped
By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD, OCT. 2. An Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspector, Venkat
Reddy, and two of his agents, who were allegedly employed for
collecting ``mamools'', were nabbed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau
officials on Tuesday during a surprise check at the Shahpur
checkpost on the Hyderabad-Kurnool national highway. An
unaccounted amount of Rs. 38,810 was recovered from them,
according to a press release.
Subsequent searches at the residence of the official established
that he possessed property disproportionate to his known sources
of income.
The assets included ten acres of land at Miryalaguda and
Nizamabad, a plot in Rajendrangar, insurance policies worth Rs. 3
lakhs and a fixed deposit receipt for Rs. 1 lakh.
One of the two agents used to collect bribe from vehicle drivers
at the checkpost and deposit the amount on hourly basis with the
other agent waiting at a nearby Weigh Bridge. He, in turn, would
deposit the money in a specially built locker in the adjoining
petrol pump. After completion of his duty, Venkat Reddy used to
take the total collection.
Special teams had been sent to nab the owners of the petrol pump
and the Weigh Bridge for aiding and abetting the crime.
