Alliance Air plane hijacked
New Delhi, oct. 3. An Alliance Air plane, on flight from Mumbai
to Delhi, was hijacked late tonight. There are 46 passengers and
six crew members aboard. The plane has landed at the Indira
Gandhi Airport and has been allowed to park itself in the
isolation bay No. 27. The National Security Guard commandos have
surrounded the plane, and were expected to storm the aircraft if
the negotiations fail.
Farooq breaks down, calls for war against Pak.
Srinagar, Oct. 3. The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Dr.
Farooq Abdullah, today urged the Centre to wage a war against
Pakistan to dismantle the training camps there and root out
terrorism.
'Hand over Masood Azhar'
Srinagar, Oct. 3. The Union Home Minister, Mr. L. K. Advani,
today asked Pakistan to hand over the leader of the Jaish-e-
Mohammad, Maulana Masood Azhar, to India, and said New Delhi
expected the United States to include the outfit in the list of
banned terrorist organisations. At the end of his one-day visit
to Srinagar, Mr. Advani told mediapersons that the JeM had owned
responsibility for the attack on the Jammu & Kashmir Legislature
on Monday and that Pakistan had disassociated itself from the
outfit.
J&K too on agenda: Powell
Washington, Oct. 3. The Bush administration has once again
assured India that its global campaign against terrorism will
eventually include the goings on in Jammu and Kashmir.
Keshubhai quits as CM
Gandhinagar, Oct. 3. In a swift turn of events today, the Gujarat
Chief Minister, Mr. Keshubhai Patel, submitted his resignation to
the Governor, paving the way for Mr. Narendra Modi to take over.
Blair backs India's stand
New Delhi, Oct. 3. Expressing solidarity with India's stand on
tackling terrorism on a global scale, the British Prime Minister,
Mr. Tony Blair, today told his counterpart, Mr. Atal Behari
Vajpayee, that terrorism could not be dealt with in compartments
and had to be ``viewed globally and tackled globally.''
Enron out of oil project
New Delhi, Oct. 3. Enron Corporation, which is planning to pull
out of its power and oil projects in India following
controversies involving its joint ventures, today concluded a
tentative agreement with the British Gas India for sale of its
stake in Enron Oil and Gas India Limited (EOGIL).
PM greets Khaleda
New Delhi, Oct. 3. The Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee,
has congratulated the Bangladesh National Party (BNP) leader, Ms.
Khaleda Zia, for her party's landslide victory in the national
elections and expressed India's desire to promote relations with
Dhaka.
Cauvery meet on Oct. 10
Chennai, Oct. 3. The Cauvery River Authority, chaired by the
Prime Minister, Mr. A.B. Vajpayee, will meet on October 10 to
discuss the quantum of water that Karnataka should release, the
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Mr. O. Panneerselvam, said today.
Tremors rattle Kutch
New Delhi, Oct. 3. Two low intensity earthquakes rattled Kutch
region of Gujarat today. Meteorological department sources said
here that an earthquake of 4.1 intensity on the Richter Scale was
experienced at 2.31 p.m. Its epicenter was 23.5 degrees north
latitude and 70.1 degrees east longitude.
