MDMK candidate's papers rejected

By Our Staff Reporter

THANJAVUR, OCT. 3. The MDMK candidate for Pattukottai municipal chairman post, Mr. S. Viswanathan's nominations was rejected today as he had been convicted in a murder case by the district court. An appeal is pending in the High Court.

Mr. Viswanathan's nomination was rejected in the last Assembly election also on the same ground.

The nomination of Mr. Karthikeyan, AIADMK candidate, was also kept pending without approval as an objection was raised by one Mr. Ravikumar who said he had been convicted in a case. The municipal commissioner gave time to Mr. Ravikumar till Thursday to produce an evidence of conviction.

Single nominations

Our Tirunelveli Staff Reporter writes:

Nine village panchayats spread over five unions have received single nomination for the president post. The candidates are likely to be declared elected unopposed after 3 p.m. on October 5, when the time for nomination withdrawal ends.
