Problems involving nalas voiced
By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD, OCT. 3. The problems being posed by nalas, both
covered and uncovered, were raised by several residents at the
weekly ``Hyderabad City Administration Face-to-Face'' programme,
which was telecast live by the Siti Channel on Wednesday.
Mr. Sridhar of Kandozi Bazar, Secunderabad, complained that the
slab over the nala in Kalasiguda area was making it difficult to
remove silt. Ms. Firdouse of Tolichowki was facing problem
because of uncovered nala in the area. She complained that
garbage was being dumped into the open nala and as a consequence
mosquito menace was rampant. There was also the danger of
children falling into it. Mr. Ramesh of Rajivnagar aired the
problems caused by dug-up road adjoining the Hussainsagar nala.
Referring to the problems expressed by Mr. Sridhar, the MCH
Commissioner, Dr. P.K. Mohanty, said that slabs would not be laid
on nalas in future, as the staff were finding it difficult to
remove silt. ``Cleaning is becoming impossible,'' he said while
promising to depute a chief engineer to the spot to decide
whether the slab should be retained or not.
Responding to Ms. Firdouse, Mr. Mohanty suggested that the
residents of area could opt for a sewerage system under the
Janmabhoomi programme. He promised to depute the Additional
Commissioner concerned to the area to work out a solution.
He assured Ms. Yasmeen of Mithilanagar, Banjara Hills, that the
open drain in the area would be developed into a park. The MCH
would also arrange garbage bins and plantation.
The Minister for Labour, Mr. C. Krishna Yadav, informed Mr.
Ramesh that constructing houses in the path of nalas was not
right. Dr. Mohanty suggested that the residents could identify
those who could be displaced for widening the nala area for
unhindered flow of water. The displaced residents would be given
alternative site, the MCH Commissioner assured.
Mr. Dinakar Prasad, DCP Traffic, replying to Ms. A. Aziz of
Tolichowki, promised a special drive to prevent parking of empty
lorries in the area as also to regulate traffic.
Mr. Rajeshwar Tiwari, Hyderabad Collector, informed Ms. Sumathi
of D.D. Colony that the district administration had offered 22
acres to Osmania University at Gachibowli in lieu of an open land
under its control close to the colony. She complained about
movement of anti-socials in the area and alleged that
representations to OU did not help solve the problem.
Water supply in BS Maktha
Meanwhile, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage
Board, while responding to a complaint of Mr. Omar Sadatullah of
BS Maktha during the programme on September 26, said that it
proposed to lay a pipeline in the area at an estimated cost of
Rs.38 lakhs. This scheme to provide water to the area was
awaiting Government sanction.
