Striking similarities
Sir, - The similarities between the Taliban and the Hindutva
forces are quite striking. Both espouse their brand of religious
ideology with a missionary zeal. They believe they hold the
exclusive right to interpret their religious faith, imposing
restrictions on women, etc. `Demolition culture' is their common
hallmark.
Defending the `trishul diksha' programme, the VHP's dharmacharya
sampark secretary, Mr. Om Prakash Bulia, said, ``these tridents
are symbols of the strength and solidarity of Hindus. They are
given to Bajrang Dal recruits to defend their country, religion,
culture and places of worship,'' (Oct. 2).
Statements like these revealing the medieval mindset of the
Bajrang Dal and the VHP are enough to ban them.
Raghav Venkatesh,
Gulbarga, Karnataka
