DSP, jawans killed in landmine blast
DALTONGANJ, OCT.4. In the second major strike against the police
in Jharkhand within ten days, a deputy superintendent of police
and two constables were killed in a landmine blast by naxalites
in Garhwa district today, officials said.
The DIG(Palamu range), Mr. Parvez Hayat, told PTI here that the
DSP(Sadar), Amlesh Kumar and two jawans were killed and three
others injured in the blast triggered by the naxalites near
Bargarh this morning.
The vehicle carrying the police party was blown to pieces , he
said, adding the identity of the naxalite organisation behind the
attack was yet to be ascertained.
He said there was heavy exchange of fire between the naxalites
and the police after the blast but the ultras managed to escape.
Mr. Hayat said a red alert has been declared in all the three
districts of Palamu division- Palamu, Garhwa and Latehar- after
the incident and contingents of central Para- military forces
from Palamu and Garhwa had been rushed there.
The state's borders with neighbouring Chhatisgarh had been sealed
and raids are being conducted to track the ultras.
Twelve CRPF jawans were killed and 15 others wounded in an ambush
and a landmine blast by the Maoist Communist Centre (MCC)
activists at a place under Churchu police station of Jharkhand's
Hazaribagh district on September 23.
