RTC goes for 'gold' for the Great Mall
By T. Lalith Singh
HYDERABAD, OCT. 5. The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport
Corporation has decided to ply 100 specially designed coaches in
the city during the month-long Great Mall of Hyderabad festival
scheduled to be held here from October 13.
The fleet includes 50 new swanky buses which were being readied
at the RTC's bus body building unit at Miyapur. The RTC City
Regional Manager, Mr. Ch. Rameshwar Rao, said a dedicated fleet
of 100 buses would be pressed into service to help people reach
the Great Mall venue at Madhapur from different parts of the
city.
Apart from 50 new buses, the RTC is also in the process of giving
a new look to 50 other buses which were recently added to the
city fleet. Towards making these buses look distinctive and
elegant, the Corporation has decided to give it a new colour
scheme.
Four different schemes were considered and finally a combination
of golden yellow was chosen. The buses would also sport colourful
logos of the Tourism Department, the Great Mall of Hyderabad,
apart from the regular RTC logo.
Mr. Rameshwar Rao said during the festival, these buses would
operate from different points, including Koti, Secunderabad,
Mehdipatnam, Kukatpally and Hafeezpet. "All these points will be
monitored by senior officials. They will be in constant touch
through wireless sets with a central command being set up at the
mall venue," he said.
Details about frequency of buses from these points were being
finalised and officials were hoping to chart a route plan that
would cover the entire city. "The frequency will be according to
the demand and we will ply buses till the last passenger reaches
his destination," Mr. Rao added.
The Great Mall with its main venue at the National Academy of
Construction, Madhapur, would also host events at Necklace Road
and Shilparamam.
