Unlimited terror

Sir, - You have hit the nail on the head by pointing out in the Editorial `Unlimited terror' (Oct. 3) that it is India which should fight the terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. Mortified by the ineffectiveness of the Centre in ending the gruesome attacks in Kashmir, the Chief Minister has called for the destruction of the terrorist camps across the border.

Though the Prime Minister has asked the U.S. to include Pakistan- aided terrorism in its global war against the menace, the big question is how far the U.S. will go to target Pakistan on behalf of India to fight cross-border terrorism. In the prevailing geopolitical equations, what is material for mutual aid and help is quid pro quo. Unless India wholeheartedly gives strategic support to the U.S. when it chooses to attack Afghanistan, neither the U.S. Government nor its people would like their country to be involved in any battle India undertakes against terrorist camps across its borders.

Since the U.N. has passed a resolution to smoke out terrorism globally, India must move the Security Council to help in dismantling terrorist groups in Pakistan, if the latter does not do so within a timeframe.
