Mukesh joins Gaurav at the top

SRINAGAR, OCT. 5. Mukesh Kumar carded a four-under 68 and joined Gaurav Ghei at the top at the half-way mark in the Sher-e-Kashmir Open golf tournament at the Royal Springs Golf Course here on Friday.

Mukesh, who had scored a 70 on the opening day, is placed at six- under 138 along with the overnight joint leader Ghei. Two strokes behind the duo are Jyoti Randhawa and Jaiveer Virk. Virk followed his 68 with a 70 while Randhawa shot his second successive 70.

Mukesh, the winner of the `Mahindra Golfer of the Year' award for the last two seasons, took only 27 putts on this day. His scorecard included six birdies and two bogeys.

Ghei, who finished with a 20-foot birdie putt on the final hole, had four birdies.

In the amateur section, Ghalib Singh was two strokes ahead of Ashfaq Ahmed at 153.

Amateurs: Ghalib Singh (76, 77) 153, Ashfaq Ahmed (74, 81) 155.
