By Our Special Correspondent
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, OCT. 6. The Finance Minister, Mr. K.

sections of society to make the proposed switchover to Value
Added Tax from April 1, 2002, a success.
Inaugurating a seminar on `Value Added Tax', organised by the
Commercial Taxes Department and the Centre for Taxation Studies,
here today, Mr. Sankaranarayanan said cooperation of traders,
industrialists, chartered accountants and tax practitioners is
necessary to make the switchover smooth and effective. Mr. M.
Anirudhan, Joint Commissioner, Commercial Taxes, welcomed the
gathering and V. Somasundaran, Commissioner, Commercial Taxes,
delivered the keynote address.
Mr. Robin Adair, international expert in VAT, presented the theme
paper at the seminar which was attended by officials and
representatives of various organisations of traders and
industrialists.
This is the first in a series of seminar-cum- awareness
programmes proposed to be held in different parts of the State to
