Hyderabad men still under investigation
WASHINGTON, OCT. 7. The two Indians from Hyderabad, Mr. Ayub Ali
Khan and Mr. Mohammed Jaweed Azmath, picked up by Federal agents
in Texas in the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks in New
York and Washington, are still being probed under detention.
There is no link established between them and the attacks on the
twin towers and the Pentagon but questions are being raised
linked to a money trail and remittances beyond their apparent
means, The Washington Post said.
The authorities were questioning how the two persons who held
low-paying jobs in New Jersey before they were detained last
month were able to send about $64,000 to their families in India
two years ago. Mr. Khan and Mr. Azmath were taken into custody
after their investigators discovered they were carrying $5,000 in
cash, hair dye and box-cutters.
Mr. Navtez Sarna, press counsellor for the Indian Embassy in
Washington, told the magazine that the two men were being
investigated in India and that there was no evidence linking them
to any terrorist organisation.
