Attack on principal's house condemned
By Our Staff Reporter
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, OCT. 7. The Latin Catholic Service Society
has registered strong protest and sadness over the attack on the
residence of the principal of the University College, Mr. S.
Verghese, following the recent incidence of violence in the
college.
A press release here today said the SFI had been abusing Mr.
Verghese, a member of a minority community, by branding him a
Congressman because he is a former president of the Government
College Teachers' Organisation. Now attempts are being made to
hold him responsible for the student-police clashes, and to
attack him.
Such kind of "bomb politics" cannot be encouraged under any
circumstances. The insulting behaviour of some "political
goondas" towards the principal and the subsequent attack on his
house, can never be justified. The Society has urged the
authorities not to allow such kind of incidents anymore and to
bring to book those responsible for the same. It has also called
on the CPI(M) to give up the policy of encouragement to such
heinous acts.
If such incidents are repeated, the entire Latin Catholic
community will unite in agitation, the release added.
