Ban on SIMI
Sir, - Mr. P. Chandrasekharan's letter (Oct. 6) on the `Ban on
SIMI' attempts to correct Mr. Justice V.R. Krishna Iyer on a very
important question of law. He says that ``there is no law at
present to mandate the Centre to publicise the cause for banning
SIMI.''
The law is Article 19 of the Constitution of India; and Mr.
Krishna Iyer has rightly, if I may say so, stated the law thus:
``Every person has a right to know why a group is governmentally
suppressed since freedom of information is implicit in Article
19.''
