In praise of tradition
Sampradaya, for the first time, is organising a three-day fund-
raising festival to commemorate its 20th anniversary at the
Narada Gana Sabha from October 10, 12 and 13 at 6.30 p.m. The
theme of the concerts is sampradaya.
Unnikrishnan, Nithyashree Mahadevan and Sanjay Subramanian, life
members of the organisation will be performing at the festival.
While Unnikrishnan will present some choice kritis of Vina
Dhanamal Bani, Nithyashree will present Muthuswamy Dikshitar's
kritis and Sanjay will present traditional kritis. The season
tickets cost Rs 250, Rs 200 and Rs 100. The daily tickets will be
Rs 100, Rs 75, Rs 50 and Rs 25. The tickets are available at the
auditorium, Landmark, Music World, Carnatic Music Book Centre and
Sampradaya between 10.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. The proceeds of the
ticket sales will be used to build a corpus fund to maintain the
archives. On the occasion, Sampradaya will also be bringing out a
souvenir with messages from the President, the Prime Minister,
critics, musicologists, artistes and heads of music institutions.
It will also feature articles, rare photographs and interviews.
The souvenir will be released during the December music festival.
