3 share Nobel for medicine
STOCKHOLM, OCT. 8. Dr. Leland Hartwell of the U.S. and Dr.
Timothy Hunt and Dr. Paul Nurse, both of Britain, were today
awarded the Nobel medicine prize for 2001 for research on cells
that opens new possibilities for the treatment of cancer, the
Nobel jury said.
The trio were awarded the prize in recognition of their work into
``key regulators of the cell cycle,'' the process by which living
cells multiply, according to the citation. They will share the
prize money of $1 million.
