Inter Telugu medium top rankers feted
By Our Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD, OCT. 8. Ten top-ranking Intermediate students (Telugu
medium, 1999-2001 batch) were honoured at a function by the
Telugu Akademi here on Monday.
They were given "Pratibha Puraskar' which carried a cash
incentive of Rs. 4,000 (first rank) and Rs. 2,000 (second rank),
a certificate and a memento each by the Minister for Higher
Education, Mr.K. Ramachandra Rao.
Addressing the gathering later, the Minister said that the
Government was aiming at inculcating moral values in the young
minds. Everyone must strive for achieving a golden age and the
Government was working towards the goal of achieving 100 per cent
literacy, he said recalling the golden age of Srikrishnadevaraya.
But, imparting literacy or education to youngsters alone would
not help solve the problems of society. For society and the State
to evolve into a flourishing and peaceful environment, a certain
effort in the direction of imparting morality was needed, he
said.
Mr. Ramachandra Rao detailed the measures adopted by the
Government to take education to the villages by opening schools
and colleges even in remote corners. Apart from sanctioning
educational institutions, teaching staff and infrastructure were
also being provided sufficiently, he said.
Among the first rankers were Soujanya (MPC-Takshasila Junior
College, Mahbubnagar), R. Vasudev (BPC-S.L.V.R.G.S.R.V. Junior
