India-Singapore expo opens

SINGAPORE, OCT. 9. The Information Technology and Communications
Minister, Mr. Pramod Mahajan, today opened the `India-Singapore
Technology Expo' as part of a week-long series of business
seminars and cultural performances organised by the Indian High
Commission and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
Though the Prime Minister, Mr. A.B. Vajpayee, will not be here,
the Singapore Prime Minister, Mr. Goh Chok Tong, will be present
at the inauguration of the cultural events on Thursday evening.
The festival was supposed to coincide with Mr. Vajpayee's visit
to Singapore.
The rock band, Indian Ocean, danseuse, Ms. Mallika Sarabhai,
violinist, Mr. L. Subramaniam and vocalist, Ms. Shubha Mudgal,
are scheduled to perform here.
An Indian food festival is also being held at the Shangri La
Hotel.
As part of the Singapore-Indian Business Conference Series, a
total of six seminars are being held.
