Karnataka Govt. may relocate flood-hit people

BIJAPUR, OCT. 9. Mr. S.R.Kashappanavar, Minister for Small-Scale
Industries, who reviewed the rain havoc here on Monday, said the
Government would consider the proposal to shift those villages
prone to water- logging in rainy season.
He told presspersons that Tonshyal, Kotyal, Hukumnal, Negihal,
and Budihal had been reeling under floods even when there was
slight rise in the water-level of the Don, and they would be
relocated if it was inevitable.
On the widespread damage caused by incessant rain this week, he
said 78 roads, including State Highways and village roads, had
been damaged. At least Rs. 52 lakhs was required to make these
roads motorable. As many as 200 houses collapsed and other 400
buildings were partially damaged. Initial estimate of the damage
caused to Government and private properties had been put at Rs. 2
crores, he said and added that Rs. 2.4 crores was available with
the district administration.
