Parrots kept for sale seized in Velachery

CHENNAI, OCT. 9. Ten pairs of juvenile parrots kept for sale in
Velachery area were seized and have been lodged at the Children's
Park, Guindy, on Tuesday.
According to Mr. K. S. Sathyamoorthy, Range Officer, following a
tip off from the Bharatiya Prani Mithra Sangh, an Animal Welfare
organisation, a raid was conducted.
The parrots were caught from the wild in Thanjavur district and
was brought here for sale. Two persons were detained and the
authorities have imposed a fine for possessing bird species
trapped from the wild.
In another case, an adult Indian Barn owl was rescued from a
house in Choolaimedu area, and was handed over to the Blue Cross.
After providing medical care for a few days, the bird would be
handed over to the Wildlife officials, they said.
