De Gaulle example

Sir,- Your leader (Comedy of Errors, Oct. 5) and letters thereon. The tragedy in the episode is the Prime Minister keeping awake till the wee hours. I am reminded of the standing instructions Charles de Gaulle gave his aide that the President should not be woken up when he retires for the night, unless the Third World War breaks out!
