Irani Trophy to be held at Nagpur
NEW DELHI, OCT 9.The prestigious Irani Trophy struggled to find a
venue following Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) expressing
its inability to hold the match because of heavy rains at Pune.
The match will now be held at Nagpur, according to the Board
Secretary, Mr. Niranjan Shah.
Originally scheduled to be held at Baroda, the Irani Trophy was
shifted to Pune when the Baroda Cricket Association cited non-
availability of ground. The MCA was then given the responsibility
of staging this match which is the traditional opener for the
domestic season. When contacted, the MCA chairman, Mr. D. C.
Agashe, said ``we have requested Saurashtra to hold the match at
Rajkot.''
When contacted at Rajkot, Mr. Shah said ``Rajkot was not ready to
stage the match at such a short notice so I requested the
Vidarbha Cricket Association.'' To Mr. Shah's relief, the VCA was
too willing to play the host.
``All arrangements for the match have been made and we are ready
to welcome the two teams (Baroda and the Rest of India),''
confirmed VCA Secretary, Mr. Vijay Chitale.
