Dissolved

COLOMBO, OCT. 11 The Sri Lankan President, Ms. Chandrika Kumaratunga, dissolved Parliament tonight. Polls will be held in December. Earlier in the day, the Ceylon Workers Congress General Secretary and Livestock Development Minister, Mr. Arumugam Thondaman, quit the Cabinet to facilitate a `reconsideration' of his party's support to the Government and eight dissident MPs crossed over to the Opposition ranks. This comes a day ahead of a no-confidence motion against the Government. Yesterday one MP defected.
