BJP happy over proof of terrorist-ISI links

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, OCT. 10. The Bharatiya Janata Party today noted with satisfaction the ``strong links'' that have been established between Pakistan's intelligence agency, the ISI, and militant attacks in India on the one hand and the September 11 terrorist strikes in the United States on the other.

The recent sacking of the ISI chief by Pakistan (presumably under the U.S. pressure) and the disclosures that followed have proved the link between the terrorists who masterminded the recent suicide attack on the Srinagar Assembly, the hijacking of an Indian Airlines plane from Kathmandu to Kandahar in 1999 and the strikes against the U.S. on September 11, the BJP general secretary and spokesperson, Mr. Sunil Shastri, said today. He referred to reports of financial transactions between those who struck in Srinagar and the suspected mastermind of the attack on the U.S..

Today's rejection by the U.S. President, Mr. George Bush, of the claims being made by the Pakistan President, Gen. Pervez Musharraf, that the war against terrorism would be short and swift, has also been welcomed here by the BJP, which has suggested that ``in the course of time, terrorist activities elsewhere will be met with the same force and determination.''
