L&T Ramboll bids for consultancy contract again

By Govind D.Belgaumkar

BANGALORE, OCT. 10. Twelve companies, including L&T Ramboll, have applied for the contract for consultancy services for the work on the proposed flyovers in the City.

The Karnataka Road Development Corporation Limited (KRDCL) has invited fresh tenders for consultancy following the controversy surrounding the L&T Ramboll, which faced allegations in the Chennai flyover scandal.

Sources, however, said the previous tenders were cancelled not because of the controversy, but because the board of directors of the KRDCL wanted to expand the scope of the tender.

Though the L&T Ramboll's bidding for the consultancy again could cause embarrassment to the KRDCL and the State Government, sources pointed out that the corporation had to consider its application now. Besides, a firm could not be denied an opportunity based on such allegations.

The KRDCL said that a clause had been added to ensure that the firms or their sister concerns which opted for consultancy could not apply for the tenders for construction of the flyovers. This means that L&T Ramboll cannot apply for the construction of the flyovers, if it gets the contract for consultancy.

Meanwhile, the KRDCL has sought certain details from the bidders for consultancy in a pro-forma. The firms are expected to furnish them by the end of this week. The KRDCL expects to finalise and award the tenders by the middle of next month.

Though the KRDCL has invited tenders for consultancy for the 22 flyovers, the Government handed over the work on three of the flyovers -- at the Town Hall junction, the K.R.Circle and Rajajinagar entrance -- to the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP). The KRDCL is understood have brought this to the notice of the bidders during the pre-bid meeting.
