Bajaj Tempo launches hi-tech tractors
By Our Corporate Reporter
CHENNAI, OCT. 10. Bajaj Tempo has introduced its new series of
hi-tech tractors, Balwan 400 and Balwan 500 and OX 25. The
company has set up an automated tractor plant in Pune at a cost
of Rs. 100 crores, capable of producing 25,000 units annually. It
plans to produce more high powered tractors and farm equipment to
provide complete solutions for the Indian farmers.
As a first step in this direction, it proposes to produce
tillers, according to Mr. Rakesh Jinsi, Chief Operating
Officer(Tractor).
The company aims to market 6,000 tractors this financial year.
Though the industry had witnessed a negative growth of 10 per
cent and it was further down at 15 per cent, the company could
market its product competitively as the integrated facilities,
which are utilised for producing light commercial vehicles,
utility vehicles, three wheelers, would be common for producing
tractors, Mr. Jinshi said.
Our Hyderabad Correspondent adds:
Announcing the launch of its `Balwan' range of tractors and a new
25 hp tractor called `The OX 25' in Hyderabad, Mr. Rakesh Jinsi
said last year the company sold 2,000 tractors contributing about
Rs. 60 crores to the group turnover of Rs. 625 crores.
He said 75 tractor dealers would be added to its existing network
of 175 by March 2002. Bajaj Tempo, he said, was the first in the
country to give synchromesh gearbox to a tractor in India. They
come with world renowned Mercedes engine with overhead camshaft,
Bosch hydraulics, and an oil immersed sealed multi disc brakes
which eliminate replacement of brake lining for the entire
lifetime of the tractor, he said.
The company also assembles about 700-800 Mercedes engines at its
Pune plant for Mercedes Benz cars sold in India, he said.
