Karun makes it to British F-3
NEW DELHI, OCT. 10. Teenaged racing driver Karun Chandhok has
made it to the 2002 British F-3 championship with an impressive
performance in the test-drive for Carlin Motorsports at the
Pembrey Track in Wales on Wednesday.
Chasing a benchmark of 52.7 seconds assigned to him by the Carlin
Motorsports race engineer Antmony `Boyo' Hyiet, Karun shattered
the mark with the fastest lap time of 51.9 seconds.
During the two-day test-drive session, the Indian was at the
wheels of TME Dallara 398 Mugen Honda car, which has earlier been
driven by Jenson Button and Narain Karthikeyan.
The 17-year-old Karun, who is sponsored by JK Tyres, is the
current leader of the Formula Asia Championship.
``It was a fantastic experience and I have learnt a lot in these
two days. I am looking forward to my F-3 season,'' Karun said in
a statement issued by his sponsors.
On the first day of the test-drive, Karun tested for 130 laps of
the 1.5 miles circuit. Overall he completed 176 laps, covering a
distance of almost 260 miles.
``I am delighted that our long-standing relationship with India
is continuing and I will be taking a personal interest and
overseeing Karun's F-3 season,'' said Mr. Martin Stone, co- owner
of the Carlin Motorsports.
