'Crorepati' Assembly staffer, two other land-grabbers held

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, OCT. 11. The police apprehended three notorious land-grabbers on Thursday, including an employee of the State Legislative Assembly, P. Narayana Rao, against whom the Anti- Corruption Bureau recently registered cases for possessing assets worth Rs. 1.3 crores.

The other land-grabbers -- J. Balwantha Reddy and Mohd. Jahangir -- were arrested in separate cases. Narayana Rao was charged with aiding and abetting his kith and kin for illegal occupation of Government land in Banjara Hills, a press release here said.

The relatives of the accused persons grabbed 3,063 square yards of land worth Rs. 1.6 crores and raised structures in that land. Narayana Rao misused his position as member of the managing committee of Sri Venkateswara Cooperative House Building Society, Banjara Hills, to grab the lands, it is said.

Balwantha Reddy fraudulently obtained occupancy rights certificates over a Government land bearing survey No. 266/1 in Falaknuma and illegally occupied 100 acres. Recently, he tried to occupy the remaining vacant land around the Falaknuma Palace by employing his henchmen and anti-social elements.

A rowdy-sheeter under Gandhinagar police station limits, Jahangir sold away the land of G. Amrutha Bai of Bakaram by creating false documents in the name of one of his associates. On March 7 this year, Jahangir along with his musclemen carrying swords and lethal weapons occupied 20,700 sq ft of Government land at new Bhoiguda.

Meanwhile, the Police Commissioner, Mr. P. Ramulu, said more land-grabbers would be arrested soon.
