Govt. doles out incentives for Great Mall

HYDERABAD, OCT. 11. The Government will offer incentives of 4
per cent sales tax on colour TVs and a one-time 2 per cent on
lifetime tax on all new motor vehicles purchased at the Great
Mall of Hyderabad - scheduled to commence here at the National
Academy of Construction on October 13.
This decision was taken at a review meeting chaired by the Chief
Minister, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu, here on Thursday. According
to a press release from the Chief Minister's Office, the
incentives would be reimbursed to the Transport and Commercial
Taxes departments by the Government through the Tourism
Department which is organising the shopping festival.
Following the announcement, more manufacturers and distributors
were expected to participate. About 140 corporate companies from
the country and abroad have confirmed participation. The Chief
Minister made it clear that the incentives were being provided to
benefit the consumers directly, to develop tourism and project
Hyderabad as an international shopping centre.
According to the event managers, nearly 30 lakh people are
expected to visit the Academy for the shopping extravaganza. A
disco is also coming up at the Academy. Officials of the Tourism
Department briefed the Chief Minister about the arrangements,
including setting up of transformers for 2,400 kv power supply.
The Seri Lingampally Municipality has made arrangements for
parking. Streetlights from Guttala Begumpet to the Academy have
been installed while provision for drinking water, telephones and
fire services have also been made. The APSRTC will run 50 special
buses painted with the festival logo while the South Central
Railway is to run a special train from Falaknuma to Hafizpet --
it will make eight trips a day.
The Ministers -- Messrs. T. Devender Goud, E. Peddi Reddy and
Laxmi Padmavathi -- the Tourism Secretary, Ms. Chandana Khan, the
Finance Secretary, Mrs. Preeti Sudan, the Commissioner of
Commercial Taxes, Mr. Ramesh Kumar, the Ranga Reddy Collector,
Mr. Ajay Jain, and police officials attended.
