Kannan's 'move' to merge PMC with Cong. flayed

By Our Staff Reporter

PONDICHERRY, OCT. 11. Mr. K. Vinayakamoorthy and Mr. S. Jothinarayanaswamy general secretaries of the Pondicherry Pradesh Congress Committee have voiced their protest against the reported move of the former Home Minister and PMC founder, Mr. P. Kannan, to merge with the Congress.

They termed the move yet another chapter the PMC leader had opened in his ``politics of opportunism.''

In separate statement issued to the mediapersons on Wednesday Mr. Vinayakamoorthy said Mr. Kannan first switched his allegiance from the Congress to the TMC when it was floated in the neighbouring Tamil Nadu.

``In the recent days he had been portraying the DMK president, Mr. M. Karunanidhi, as his most respected leader. He also aligned his party (PMC) with the DMK for the Assembly elections in order to capture a good number of seats. But his fond hopes were shattered.'' Mr. Vinayakamoorthy alleged that in the election of the Speaker of the Assembly the confusion sought to be created with the cooperation of the Independent member, Mr. Malladi Krishna Rao, also ended in a fiasco.

`The Congress would never respond to the aspirations and ambitions of Mr. Kannan. Now within 100 days of the conclusion of the Assembly poll, Mr. Kannan was now prepared for a somersault by knocking at the doors of the AICC president, Ms. Sonia Gandhi,' Mr. Vinayakamoorthy said.

Mr. Jothinarayanasamy, in his statement said, `one would not forget the derisive comments Mr. Kannan had made against the Congress and the party would not accept him. But the wooing of the Congress by Mr. Kannan for his re-entry to the party only showed the strength of the party,' he said.
