VRS beneficiaries irked over pension delay
By Our Staff Reporter
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, OCT. 12. The Bank Voluntarily Retired Staff
Association has protested against the delay in the disbursal of
pension and other retirement benefits to the employees who had
opted for the Voluntary Retirement Scheme.
Addressing a press conference here today, the general secretary
of the association, Mr. P. C. Rajendran, alleged that the State
Bank of Travancore management had denied pension to several
employees with service of 15 to 20 years. Though the Indian Banks
Association had directed the banks to amend the pension rules,
the SBT had not implemented it so far, he said.
The voluntary retirees had been denied the grace period of five
years. As a result, there was a drastic fall in the pension
amount, Mr. Rajendran said.
The Association would be holding a dharna in front of the State
Bank of Travancore head office here on October 15 to press for
their demands, he added.
The Association leaders, Mr. Mathew Paul and Mr. A. J. Kumeresh,
attended the press conference.
