Canara Bank's staff reduction move flayed
By Our Staff Reporter
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, OCT. 12. The Canara Bank Employees Union has
criticised the move to reduce the number of staff in various
branches and to close down branch offices in the wake of the new
economic reforms.
Addressing a press conference here today, the joint secretary of
the Union, Mr. A. N. Balasubramanian, said the union would oppose
the so-called reforms in the banking sector as these would lead
to rise in unemployment and loss of job security.
He urged the management to formulate a plan to enable the bank
to recover unpaid debts from multinational companies.
The various problems related to the banks in the wake of the new
economic policy would be discussed at the fifth State conference
of the Canara Bank Employees Union to be held here on October 13,
he said.
The employees union leaders, Mr. K. Sreevasudevan, Mr. P.
Giridharan and Mr. V. Madhu attended the press conference.
