West playing God
Sir, - What is interesting about the attack on Afghanistan is
that the U.S. is dropping not only bombs but also food. The U.S.
and Britain are trying to act both as destroyer and saviour.
This `joke' is being played on Afghanistan for almost 200 years.
Till the middle of the 20th century, Britain used Afghanistan as
a buffer in its fight with Russia for the dominance of South
Asia. And in the second half, Afghanistan became the battleground
for the U.S. and the USSR. With the end of the Soviet dominance,
the land-locked country began to serve the geo-political
interests of the U.S. and its frontline allies - Pakistan, the
UAE and Saudi Arabia. The ``millennium war'' is yet another
attempt by the West to play God.
