Inadequate information

Sir, - The receipt given by the Regional Passport Office, Chennai, contains the address of the website which can be visited for ascertaining the status of passport applications. On learning from the press note of the RPO that the applications submitted up to July, 2001, had been despatched in September, I rang up to find out why I had not received my passport for which I had applied on July 17.

I was told that the press note was only for general information and I should go to the office to find out the reasons for the delay.

Being a senior citizen unable to travel, I visited the website for an update. I was surprised to note that the site had not been updated after September 19. Also, the status information is too general to be of any use to the applicants.

S. Gurumurthy,

Chennai
