Zaeef rushes to Kandahar

ISLAMABAD, OCT. 13. As the U.S.-led air strikes against terrorist bases in Afghanistan entered the seventh day, Taliban's envoy to Pakistan, Mr. Abdul Salam Zaeef today rushed to Kandahar to consult the militia's top leadership on the emerging situation.

Before leaving for the Taliban's spiritual headquarters, Mr. Zaeef told reporters he ``is returning to Afghanistan for consultations.''

He did not give details about his visit except saying that he would be meeting Taliban's supreme leader, Mullah Mohammad Omar.

However, Mr. Zaeef's sudden visit to Kandahar amidst heavy bombing of the city sparked off speculations here that Afghanistan's sole remaining envoy to the outside world, was carrying a special message from the Pakistan President, Mr. Pervez Musharraf.
