Pakistan seeks U.S. help
WASHINGTON, OCT. 14. On the eve of the U.S. Secretary of State,
Gen. Colin Powell's visit to the subcontinent, Pakistan today
sought Washington's help to resume Indo-Pak. dialogue to resolve
the Kashmir issue.
``The U.S. along with other members of the U.N. Security Council
can help recommence a dialogue between Pakistan and India so that
we, with the rest of the world community, can attempt to arrive
at a solution acceptable to the people of Pakistan,'' the
Pakistan Foreign Minister, Mr. Abdul Sattar, told ABC TV.
``I think that is the bottom line. A solution has to be
acceptable to Kashmir, has to be acceptable to the people of
Kashmir.''
Mr. Sattar parried a question about the U.S. view that Kashmir is
``the most dangerous place in the world today''. He did not say
as to what role Pakistan was likely to ask Gen. Powell to play in
the region.
