Matter of concern
Sir, - There have been many protests against the U.S. attacks on
Afghanistan. Both our culture and democracy permit differences in
viewpoints and perspectives among citizens.
What is strange and disturbing is that while these people take to
the streets when bombings take place in Baghdad or Kabul, they
are nowhere to be seen when Mumbai, Coimbatore or Srinagar is
bombed. This is a matter for serious thought.
R. Narayana Swamy,
Chennai
Sir, - The war in Afghanistan is not a war against Islam or
Muslims. It is against terrorism and a bunch of irresponsible,
dangerous thugs, who have made arms and armed conflict their
lifestyle.
Holed up in Afghanistan, the fundamentalist forces have used that
beautiful country to infect neighbouring and distant nations with
the poison that can only bring death and destruction.
Those who are now protesting the U.S. action need to be careful
and objective in their analysis of the retaliation to world
terrorism.
G. B. Kumar,
Bangalore
