IA Chennai-Kuala Lumpur daily flight from Oct. 28

By Our Special Correspondent

KUALA LUMPUR, OCT. 15. The present four-times-a-week Airbus-320 service between Chennai and Kuala Lumpur will become a daily service from October 28.

Talking to a group of visiting journalists from India, attending a two-day global meet for Asia Pacific Journalists on Air Transport Safety Information (ATSI), organised by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Mr. R. Radhakrishnan, IA manager here, said the increased frequency of services would help meet the growing ``ethnic community traffic between the two countries''.

The IA, which is offering over 752 seats now, will increase them to more than 1,000 seats from October-end, registering a 75 per cent increase in capacity, besides becoming the ``preferred carrier in this region''.

The proposed enhancement comes at a time when Malaysia Airlines has announced its decision to discontinue its Kuala Lumpur-Penang-Chennai service from October 27. Meanwhile, explaining the Air India operations between various Indian destinations to Kuala Lumpur, Mr. P.S. Rajgopal, AI manager, Malaysia, said the national carrier was currently sharing the tri-weekly Airbus-310 service via Singapore linking Kuala Lumpur. The services link Chennai, New Delhi and Mumbai apart from having code-sharing arrangement with Malaysia Airlines from Bangalore, Hyderabad and Mumbai.
