Student arrested for murdering roommate

BANGALORE, OCT. 15. The City Police on Sunday arrested a student of Chemical Engineering for allegedly murdering his roommate on Saturday.

According to police, Kamal Moga (24), a final year student of Electrical Engineering of MEJ College, Whitefield, was found murdered in his room.

Investigations revealed that Kamal was allegedly murdered by his roommate, Parvindar Singh, a student of Chemical Engineering of the same college.

Police said Kamal and Parvindar Singh had been staying in a room in Anandanagar in HAL 3rd Stage. Kamal had lent Rs.5,000 to Parvindar Singh but the latter had refused to return the money.

On Saturday, Kamal blamed Parvindar for ``burning his bedsheet.'' A quarrel ensued between the two and in the melee, Parvindar allegedly murdered Kamal and fled.

Parvindar was nabbed by the HAL Police. A case of murder has been registered.

Remanded

The Hanumanthnagar Police have arrested two persons on charges of dowry harassment in two cases.

On October 12, 2001, the police arrested Praveen (33), a native of Bhadravathi in Shimoga district.

Praveen married Vijayalakshmi, daughter of Tulasi Bai of Hanumanthnagar in the year 2000. A dowry of Rs.10,000 in cash and gold and silver ornaments was given to Praveen during marriage.

Praveen had been reportedly harassing his wife asking her to bring more dowry. Following a complaint, Praveen was arrested.

The accused has been remanded in judicial custody.

In another case, Basavaraj, a resident of Shamanna Gardens was arrested for allegedly harassing his wife for more dowry.

Basavaraj was married to Savita in 1999, and a dowry of Rs.15,000 in cash, gold and silver ornaments and a site was given during the marriage. However, Basavaraj had been harassing Savitha to bring more dowry.

Basavaraj was produced before a city court on October 12, which remanded him in judicial custody.

Body found

The body of a 60-year-old man was found in a foundation ditch in Koramangala on Sunday.

The man had been strangled and his body thrown in the ditch which had been dug as part of a foundation in Iglur village. The head and neck bore injury marks. Police suspect that the man was murdered elsewhere and the body thrown in the ditch.

Koramangala Police have registered a case. Further investigations are on.

Killed in mishap

Sulochana Prahalad (56), a resident of Jayanagar 4th Block, died after she was hit by a car in the early hours of Monday, when she was talking a morning walk on 28th Main near the Corporation office.

Tilaknagar Police have registered a case. Further investigations are on.
