Inter-State gang involved in fake gold dust busted
By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD, OCT. 15. Four members of an inter-State gang, who
cheated goldsmiths with fake gold dust, were apprehended by the
Central Crime Station police here recently and 11-kg of fake gold
dust was seized.
The arrested persons were: Islamuddin (50), Sayeed (52), both of
New Delhi, Zakir (24) of Uttaranchal and Irshad Ali (55) of
Yakutpura here, a press release said. Three others -- Noor Illahi
of Uttar Pradesh, Iqbal of Yakutpura and Ramlal from Secunderabad
-- were at large.
The members used to purchase brick dust from brick kilns in and
around Delhi and by adding black colour to it, they made the
powder glow. They used to offer a small amount of genuine gold
dust to selected goldsmiths and ask them to sell it in the market
for half the original rate.
The accused persons camped at Santosh Lodge near Secunderabad
railway station and lured a goldsmith, K. Krishna, of
Secunderabad pot market. They also roped in two brokers -- Ramlal
and Iqbal -- for luring goldsmiths. The victim gave Rs. 90,000
cash and gold ornaments worth Rs. 3.39 lakhs to the members in
exchange of fake gold dust, it is said.
Meanwhile, special police teams are being sent to Delhi and Uttar
Pradesh to arrest the remaining culprits.
