CM writes to PM against denial of flood relief
By Our Special Correspondent
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, OCT. 15. The Revenue Minister, Mr. K.M. Mani,
told the Assembly today that the Chief Minister had once again
written to the Prime Minister protesting against denial of flood
relief assistance to the State.
Responding to a calling attention motion by Dr. A.
Neelalohithadasan Nadar (JD), Mr. Mani said the State would not
suffer neglect in such matters as flood relief. He also appealed
to the House to stand together so that the rightful share of the
State could be secured from the Centre.
Earlier, Dr. Nadar alleged that the Government had not even made
an exact estimation of the losses sustained on account of the
recent floods. He also wanted to know what happened to the
Revenue Minister's proposal to rally the southern States that had
been denied flood relief assistance.
The Minister said the State had indeed made a convincing case
before the Centre and provided as much assistance as possible to
the flood-hit people. He also disclosed that the rains on
September 20 had resulted in losses worth Rs. 3.16 crores.
