VRS for Govt. staff
Sir, - This refers to the ERC proposal for VRS for Government
employees along the lines of the PSUs. The Government should
experiment with a flexible VRS scheme, where the employees
desirous of VRS should quote their price and submit a bid. The
Government should have a maximum limit which they are willing to
pay each employee in a particular grade. However, employees could
quote a lower cost to the Government if they so desire. This idea
will tap the employees who are comfortably settled in life and
would like to exit the Government, provided they get a pension.
While there may be initial resistance, the idea will establish
itself. Successful implementation of the scheme could lead to
savings in crores of rupees. When implementing VRS for Government
employees, the stakes could be about Rs 10,000 crores and savings
should be ensured and actively sought to this account.
Saurabh Sharma,
