Yuveraj feeling indisposed
By Our Special Correspondent
PORT ELIZABETH, OCT. 15. Yuveraj Singh seems to be under the
weather since India's match against Kenya at the Goodyear Park,
Bloemfontein. The left-hander from Punjab has seen chest
specialists in Bloemfontein and here, but immediate reports have
not exactly alarmed the team management.
``It's not a case of shingles, but seems to be some sort of a
virus or bacterial attack on his nerves in the intercostal
muscles that runs down the ribs on the right side. The
specialists have ruled out a chest infection. He has been feeling
pain in that part of the body. He has been responding to
antibiotics and painkillers. He had a run today at the training
session and appears to be okay. There should be more positives of
him on Tuesday,'' said the team physiotherapist, Andrew Leipus.
``Das (Shiv Sundar) is perfectly all right and so are the
others,'' he added.
The Indians reached this Southern coastal city on Saturday, a day
after they registered a crushing victory over Kenya. Within hours
of reaching the port city, some of the players had a workout at
the St. Georges Park on Sunday.
According to coach John Wright it was an optional practice
session on Monday, too. ``We had a full training and practice
session today for nearly three-and-a-half hours. The facilities
are excellent. There was a cloud cover and the ball moved a bit
today. I am told the grass will be removed on Tuesday,'' said
Wright.
Wright is confident the Indians will remain as focussed as they
have been in the previous three matches against South Africa and
Kenya, two of which they won. A clear picture has almost emerged
at the half-way stage of the tri-series. Kenya has lost three
matches and hence, do not have a point. South Africa has 13 from
four matches and India, nine from three matches.
In the circumstances, the Indians might use the opportunity to
rest a handful of key players. According to Wright all the ``15
players, including Yuveraj Singh'' are in the frame, but it is
just possible that Venkatesh Prasad, might return to the playing
eleven. Prasad has not been considered after India's opening
match against South Africa.
The fourth specialist seamer in the squad, Harvinder Singh and
allrounder Reetinder Singh Sodhi may also get a call. India has
two more matches against Kenya and the rationale that it's better
to give chances now to those who have not got a single match so
far, holds good.
