Chandrika's brother rejoins PA Govt.
COLOMBO, OCT. 16. The Sri Lankan President, Ms. Chandrika
Kumaratunga's brother today quit the main Opposition, United
National Party (UNP), to rejoin his sister's ruling party to
prepare for the coming parliamentary elections, sources said
today.
Mr. Anura Bandaranaike, a former Speaker in the Sri Lankan
Parliament, resigned after allegations that he favoured the
ruling People's Alliance despite being an Opposition member.
Ms. Kumaratunga and her brother are expected to spearhead the
election campaign for the December 5 parliamentary elections.
