Cong. protest against Fernandes' induction

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, OCT. 16. The APCC is organising a protest demonstration in Hyderabad on October 18 against the induction of Mr.George Fernandes as Union Minister for Defence and Mr.Hiren Pathak as the Union Minister of State in the same ministry and ``to expose the conspiracy of the NDA Government.'' The rally, starting from Gandhi Bhavan, will pass through Nampally, Public Gardens and culminate in a public meeting at the Babu Jagjivan Ram statue.

The PCC president, Mr. M. Satyanarayana Rao, said in a press release that the State Congress holds the Prime Minister responsible for inducting Mr. Fernandes, ``whose face is blackened'' by defence deals exposed by the Tehelka tapes, into the Cabinet.

The induction of Mr.Fernandes was nothing short of supporting his ``black deeds.'' The charges against Mr. Patham are pending in the High Court, the PCC president pointed out.

Ambika Soni clarifies

The AICC general secretary, Mrs Ambika Soni, in a letter to the PCC president has clarified that all ex-deputy Chief Ministers belonging to the Congress are automatically members of the State Election Committee.
