IUML ultras fomenting trouble: BJP
By Our Staff Reporter
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, OCT. 17. The BJP State president, Mr. C.K.
Padmanabhan, has alleged that fundamentalist elements within the
IUML are trying to take advantage of the Afghan war to whip up
communal feelings in the State.
Addressing a press conference here today, he said these elements
were using the influence of the IUML to prevent the Antony
government from initiating action against extremist groups
operating in Kerala.
Mr. Padmanabhan said several fundamentalist organisations in
Kerala were openly supporting Osama bin Laden and his terrorist
movement.
He said a section of the IUML had come out in support of the
Taliban. Pointing out that a couple of Ministers had attended
functions organised by these groups, he urged the Chief Minister,
Mr. A.K. Antony, to look into the issue.
Calling attention to extremist groups operating in Pathanamthitta
district, he urged the Government to launch a crackdown on their
activities in view of the ensuing Sabarimala season.
Mr. Padmanabhan said the 48-day-old agitation spearheaded by the
Adivasi-Dalit Action Council had been called off without a
solution to the fundamental problems faced by the tribals.
He said the stir could not be termed a success unless the
Government decided to enforce the 1975 legislation to restore
alienated land to tribal communities.
Mr. Padmanabhan said the brutal attack on a BJP worker and his
two-year-old daughter at Athiyannoor was part of an organised
attempt by the CPI(M) to unleash terror on political opponents.
He urged the Government for stern measures to bring the
assailants to justice.
The BJP will organise booth-level functions all over the State to
celebrate its Golden Jubilee, Mr. Padmanabhan announced.
