Madurai Mayor displays 'ballot papers'
By S. Vijay Kumar
MADURAI, OCT. 17. In a dramatic development, ballot papers
allegedly meant for polling in some wards of the Madurai
Corporation on Thursday were displayed by the DMK Mayor, Mr. P.
Kulandaivelu, at a press conference here today.
Accusing the AIADMK of leaking the ballot papers in an attempt to
cast bogus votes, the DMK leader, accompanied by the Mayoral
candidate, Mr. C. Ramachandran, said the issue would be taken up
with the State Election Commissioner. ``We are looking for a fair
deal and have no intention to stall the elections'', he said.
The Collector, Mr. S. Ramachandran, refuted the charge, saying
the ballot papers produced by the DMK leaders were ``discarded''
because of some printing anomalies in the press itself. An
inquiry has been ordered into the leak, he added.
