Counselling for EAMCET to resume on Oct. 20

HYDERABAD, OCT. 17.Counselling for admission to engineering colleges will resume on October 20 after a three-day interruption from today due to floods in several districts of Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema.

The Commissioner of Technical Education, Mr. A. R. Sukumar, who is also Convenor, EAMCET-2001 admissions, had ordered postponement of the counselling from October 17 to safeguard the interests of candidates belonging to the flood-hit districts.

The simultaneous online counselling has been in progress since the third week of August in Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Guntur, Tirupati and Warangal. Nearly 70,000 students who passed EAMCET- 2001 had appeared for counselling in these five centres.

When contacted, Dr. K. Raghunath, Camp Officer, said that as many as 24,715 seats had been filled in around 163 university, Government and private engineering colleges during the past two months leaving about 12,000 vacancies. As per the original schedule, the counselling is slated for completion on October 31, he added.
