There is no freeze on recruitment: CM
By Our Special Correspondent
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, OCT. 17. The Chief Minister, Mr. A.K. Antony,
told the Assembly today that the Government had not issued any
order banning fresh recruitment to the State service.
Responding to a calling attention motion by Mr. M.V. Jayarajan
(CPI-M), the Chief Minister said the Government had also not
taken any decision on raising the retirement age of Government
employees.
The State Planning Board, he said, had found that there were
around 60,000 excess staff in Government service and all that the
Government had done was to enforce a ban on creation of new
posts. In fact, heads of departments have been asked to fill all
existing vacancies. Failure to report vacancies and fill existing
vacancies would be viewed seriously, he said.
Earlier, Mr. Jayarajan pointed out that the number of educated
unemployed in the live rolls of employment exchanges had gone up
to 43 lakhs as on August 1, 2001. He also barged into the well of
the House to pass on to the Chief Minister proof of what he
termed the Government's failure to recruit even those who had
been issued advice memo.
