JeM threatens fresh attacks
SRINAGAR, OCT. 18. Close on the heels of the Lashkar-e-Taiba
threatening to step up violence, another Pakistan-based militant
outfit, Jaish-e-Mohammad, has warned of intensified suicidal
attacks across the country.
The JeM central command has taken the decision in view of the
``indiscriminate shelling on civilian population'' by the Indian
troops in Akhnoor and Mendhar sectors and the threat by the
Vishwa Hindu Parishad to construct a Ram temple at Ayodhya, the
outfit said in a statement today.
The statement, which appeared in a local newspaper, said Delhi,
Mumbai, Uttar Pradesh, Parliament, the State Assemblies and Army
installations would be targeted in the new wave of attacks.
The military spokesman of JeM, Mr. Abu Hamza, denied that the
name of the outfit had been changed to Tehreek-ul- Furqan. ``It
is not true,'' he said in a statement, ``the name of the group
has remained Jaish-e-Mohammad.''
The outfit had claimed responsibility for the October 1 suicidal
attack on the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly which claimed 36 lives.
