Phalke award for Asha

NEW DELHI, OCT. 18. With the Dada Saheb Phalke Award now being
added to her kitty of awards, the ``evergreen'' singer, Ms. Asha
Bhosle, today joined an elite club of 31 eminent film
personalities, including her sister, Ms. Lata Mangeshkar. The
award will be presented by the President, Mr. K.R. Narayanan, at
the National Film Awards presentation ceremony not scheduled yet.
Asha has the distinction of having sung nearly 12,000 songs in
practically every Indian language. She has received the National
Award twice and has won the Filmfare award eight times, besides
other awards. She is also the first Indian vocalist to receive a
Grammy award nomination.
